Saga Cruises has announced that its first ever new-build cruise ship, Spirit of Discovery, will be named in its home port of Dover on 05 July 2019.
The boutique luxury cruise ship will be the first cruise ship to be christened in Dover for more than a decade, following the completion of stages 1&2 of the £250 million redevelopment of Dover Western Docks.

The keel laying for Saga Cruises first-ever newbuild cruise ship, Spirit of Discovery, was laid at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany on 28 June 2018.
The 999-passenger Spirit of Discovery is the first of two new cruise ships being constructed for Saga Cruises. Spirit of Discovery will be delivery in summer 2019, whilst the second vessel named Spirit of Adventure will launch in 2020.
Saga has announced that is has ordered a second new build cruise ship, which will be named Spirit of Adventure and will launch in summer 2020.
The new ship will be a sister ship to the first ever new build ship for Saga, Spirit of Discovery, which is due to launch in July 2019.

The latest renderings released by Saga Cruises include the luxury on board spa, the theatre and library. Saga Cruises celebrated its 20th Anniversary on 20 May 2017. The cruise line’s two cruise ships Saga Sapphire and Saga Pearl docked together in Dover for mark the special occasion. The ships departed that evening and shortly after a fireworks display took place over Dover Harbour for both passengers on board the two ships and those on the shore in Dover to enjoy. |
