The keel laying for Saga Cruises first-ever newbuild cruise ship, Spirit of Discovery, was laid at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany on 28 June 2018.
The 999-passenger Spirit of Discovery is the first of two new cruise ships being constructed for Saga Cruises. Spirit of Discovery will be delivery in summer 2019, whilst the second vessel named Spirit of Adventure will launch in 2020.

On 28 February 2018 the steel cutting ceremony of Saga’s first ever new build cruise ship took place at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany.
The steel cutting ceremony marks the start of the building process for the new 999-passenger cruise ship Spirit of Discovery.
Saga has announced that is has ordered a second new build cruise ship, which will be named Spirit of Adventure and will launch in summer 2020.
The new ship will be a sister ship to the first ever new build ship for Saga, Spirit of Discovery, which is due to launch in July 2019. Saga Cruises have announced that their first ever new build cruise ship, which is to launch in summer 2019, will be named Spirit of Discovery.
The new 55,900 gross tonne cruise ship will measure 234 metres long and have a width of 30.8 metres. The ship has been designed to carry less than 1,000 passengers in some 540 cabins and suites. More than 100 cabins on board will be dedicated for solo travellers. Saga has released images of its first new build cruise ship, giving the world a further glimpse of the exterior and interior of the new sleek 55,900 gross tonne cruise ship.
Currently unnamed, but known in-house as Project Olympic, the ship will measure approximately 234 metres in length, 30.8 metres wide. It is scheduled to enter service in summer 2019. |
