Ambassador Cruise Line is getting ready to welcome a brand-new addition to its growing family – Ambella.
Due to join the fleet in 2028, this exciting new ship marks an important step for Ambassador as it expands beyond the UK and into the German-speaking cruise market. But what do we know about Ambella so far? Here are five things worth knowing. 1. Ambella has an interesting history
Ambella won't actually be a brand-new ship straight from the shipyard. She is currently known as Sirena, part of Oceania Cruises’ fleet.
Ambassador has acquired the 30,200-ton ship and plans to rename her Ambella when she joins the company from summer 2028. Until then, Sirena is expected to remain in service with Oceania under a leaseback arrangement. That gives Ambella something rather special – a proven cruise ship with plenty of experience at sea, ready for a new chapter with Ambassador. 2. She will be Ambassador’s German-market ship
One of the most interesting things about Ambella is that she isn't simply being added to the existing UK Ambassador fleet.
She will become the flagship of Ambassador Kreuzfahrten, a new brand aimed specifically at German-speaking guests. The ship is planned to operate from Bremerhaven and Kiel, giving Ambassador a new base from which to explore northern Europe, the Baltic and other European destinations. It's a significant move for a cruise line that originally built its reputation around no-fly cruising from UK ports. 3. Ambella will carry around 670 guests
If you're used to seeing huge cruise ships carrying several thousand passengers, Ambella is going to feel very different.
The ship is expected to accommodate approximately 670 guests, making her considerably more intimate than many of today's mega-ships. That smaller scale fits nicely with Ambassador's existing approach to cruising, which focuses on a more relaxed atmosphere rather than the enormous resorts-at-sea offered by some of the industry's biggest names. For passengers who prefer a ship where getting around is relatively straightforward and where the atmosphere feels more personal, Ambella could be an interesting proposition. 4. She will be adults-only
Ambella is planned to offer an adults-only cruise experience, continuing an important part of Ambassador's existing cruise proposition.
Ambassador's current UK operation describes its cruises as adult-only, with an emphasis on relaxed cruising, full-board dining and British hospitality. For Ambella, that concept will be adapted for the German-speaking market, creating a slightly different proposition from Ambassador's UK ships Ambience and Ambition. It will be interesting to see how the company combines its established cruising philosophy with German-language service and culture. 5. Ambella won't be the only new chapter for Ambassador
Perhaps the biggest story here isn't just the ship itself – it's what Ambella represents for Ambassador Cruise Line.
The company has grown considerably since launching its first ship, Ambience, in 2022. Ambition followed in 2023, while Renaissance subsequently joined the wider fleet. Now, with Ambella and the launch of Ambassador Kreuzfahrten, the company is expanding its European footprint once again. And there is an unusual twist: after her summer European programme, Ambella is also expected to be chartered to Semester at Sea, giving the ship a very different role during part of the year. The future looks interesting
Ambella is still some time away from welcoming her first Ambassador guests, but she already promises to be one of the more interesting additions to the company's expanding fleet.
With around 670 guests, an adults-only concept, German-language cruising and departures from Bremerhaven and Kiel, Ambella will have a distinctly different identity from Ambassador's existing UK ships. Summer 2028 could be the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Ambassador Cruise Line – and Ambella will be at the heart of it.
