Celebrity Cruises has unveiled designs of its new Edge-Class cruise ships. The first ship in the new class, Celebrity Edge is expected to launch in December 2018, followed by Celebrity Beyond in March 2020. Two further ships will follow in 2021 and 2022.
The new ships will be 129,500 gross tonnes and accommodate 2,918 guests at double occupancy or 3,373 at full capacity. They will measure over 300 metres in length and 39 metres wide.

Celebrity Cruises is expected to announce further details about its new Edge-class cruise ships, following the announcement of a partnership with the designer, Nate Berkus. He is to become the Design Ambassador for the new class of ships.
He will be co-hosting a series of reveal events, joined by Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, President & CEO, Celebrity Cruises and Richard D. Fain, Chairman & CEO, Royal Caribbean Cruises, which is the parent company that owns Celebrity Cruises. Celebrity Cruises has announced that the popular Celebrity Eclipse, which has been in Southampton since launching in 2010, will be replaced by her newer slightly larger sister Celebrity Silhouette in 2018.
Celebrity Eclipse will operate briefly out of Dublin in 2018, along with cruises departing from Amsterdam and Barcelona. Celebrity Cruises will become the first major cruise line to operate cruises from Ireland. The steel for Celebrity Cruises first Edge Class cruise ship launching in 2018 took place today at the STX shipyard in France. The name of the new ship was also unveiled as Celebrity Edge.
Celebrity Edge will be the first of four new-build cruise ships in the innovative Edge Class. The second ship will be named Celebrity Beyond and will launch in 2020. Each of the four ships will be 117,000 gross tonne and accommodate 2,900 passengers. World famous singer and songwriter, Demi Lovato is to perform at an exclusive concert taking place in St Maarten for passengers cruising with Celebrity Cruises over the December holidays. Demi Lovato is known for hits like “Cool for the Summer” and “Heart Attack” and also has a TV background as a child star on Disney’s Camp Rock. More recently she is known as an advocate for youth, mental health and LGBT issues. The concert will take place on 28 December 2016 in St Maarten with four Celebrity Cruises ships docked, Celebrity Equinox, Celebrity Eclipse, Celebrity Summit and Celebrity Reflection.
General admission tickets are $100 per person and VIP tickets which include a meet-and-greet are $300 per person. Tickets can be purchased on the Celebrity Cruises website and are on a first come, first serve basis and are only available to passengers booked on the four selected cruises. |
