Norwegian Cruise Line’s latest new build cruise ship, the 167,800 gross tonne Norwegian Joy, has completed its conveyance on the Ems River, having recently left the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany.
Norwegian Joy is the first ship in the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet to have been specifically designed for the Chinese cruise market. The ship's striking hull art has been created by renowned Chinese artist, Tan Ping.

Norwegian Cruise Line has unveiled renderings of its new class of cruise ships. In February 2017 the cruise line announced plans to construct four new ships at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy.
The new ships are being referred to as Project Leonardo. Norwegian Cruise Line have ordered four of the new 140,000 gross tonne cruise ships, due to launch in 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025. The largest cruise ship ever built for Norwegian Cruise Line, the 167,800 gross tonne Norwegian Joy, was floated out from the construction hall at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany on 04 March 2017.

Norwegian Cruise Line has ordered four new generation cruise ships, which will be constructed at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy. The cruise line also has the option for an additional two cruise ships.
Each of the new build cruise ships has a value of approximately € 800 million. The first is expected to be delivered to Norwegian Cruise Line in 2022. The other three new ships will launch in 2023, 2024 and 2025. If the additional two cruise ships are also order these are likely to launch in 2026 and 2027. The 2,240-passenger Norwegian Star has encountered propulsion problems during a 33-night cruise from Hong Kong to South East Asia, Australia and New Zealand.
The ship’s starboard azipod developed problems and has forced the ship to change its itinerary in order to maintain its schedule and reach Sydney on 06 February 2017, where the 33-night cruise ends. Norwegian Cruise Line has unveiled more exciting features which will be on board the Norwegian Bliss, scheduled to launch in 2018.
The most striking feature will be an incredible 180 degree Observation Lounge, located at the front of the ship on Deck 15. Spanning 20,000 square feet, the sprawling Observation Lounge will be a breath-taking experience, offering floor-to-ceiling windows that will be the perfect spot from which to take in the stunning sunset views of the beautiful islands of the Caribbean during her winter season or the awe-inspiring glaciers and vistas of Alaska in the summer. The lounge, designed with rich woods and a silver and grey colour palate, will offer an abundance of plush, modern seating including couches and chaise loungers to take in the view, along with a 360 degree polished aluminium and quartz-topped central bar where guests can enjoy fine cocktails and spirits. Norwegian Cruise Line has announced that Norwegian Bliss will cruise from Miami in winter 2018. The winter cruise season from Miami will commence on 17 November 2018.
Norwegian Bliss will cruise seven-night Eastern Caribbean cruises departing every Saturday from Miami. The cruises will visit St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands; Tortola, British Virgin Islands and Nassau, Bahamas. Norwegian Cruise Line has announced its 2018-2019 cruise itineraries, which will see the cruise lines largest ship, Norwegian Escape set sail from New York City on regular seven-night cruises to Bermuda, Canada and New England, Bahamas and Florida.
The Norwegian Breakaway, which has been homeported from New York with it’s Big Apple inspired hull art, will leave New York in April 2018 to homeport Copenhagen sailing nine-night cruises to Scandinavia and Russia after a brief dry dock. The ship will return to New York in winter 2018 and will resume seven-night cruises to the Bahamas and Florida. Norwegian Cruise Line’s newest ship which is still under construction, the Norwegian Bliss is being custom-built to operate seven-night Alaskan cruises from Seattle and will arrive in June 2018. The first piece of steel for the Norwegian Bliss was cut at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenbergen, Germany on 28 October 2016, marking the ceremonial start of the 167,800 gross tonne ship’s construction.
Norwegian Bliss will be launch in summer 2018 and will based in Seattle, operating cruises to Alaska. The 4,200 passenger cruise ship will be the largest to ever operate cruises to Alaska. Norwegian Cruise Line has unveiled the hull art design of its newest ship, Norwegian Bliss launching in spring 2018, which has be specifically designed to cruise Alaska.
The giant work of art on the ship’s hull, which has been designed by marine artist Wyland includes a humpback whale and her calf, along with various other sea creatures. The design was unveiled at an event held in his gallery in Fort Lauderdale. |
