Deutschland has departed Bremerhaven on its final cruise for Phoenix Reisen, marking the end of the ship’s 2026 season with the German cruise operator.
The 1998-built vessel left the German port on Friday for an eight-night voyage covering the English Channel and North Sea. The roundtrip itinerary includes calls at five destinations across France, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Belgium.
The cruise is scheduled to visit Portsmouth and Fowey in the United Kingdom, Saint-Malo in France, Antwerp in Belgium and IJmuiden in the Netherlands. Guests will also experience scenic cruising along the Scheldt River during the voyage.
The sailing brings an end to a four-month farewell season for Deutschland, which began in May and featured a wide range of itineraries around Northern Europe, Iceland, the Baltic, the British Isles and the Atlantic. One of the highlights of the 2026 season was a 22-night voyage to the Azores and Madeira. Departing from Cuxhaven in late May, the itinerary included overnight calls in Horta and Funchal, along with visits to Praia da Vitória, Velas and Ponta Delgada.
Phoenix Reisen previously confirmed that it would not extend its charter agreement for Deutschland beyond 2026, meaning the ship will not return to the operator’s fleet next year.
Originally built for Peter Deilmann, the 520-passenger Deutschland has been sailing under the Phoenix Reisen brand since November 2015. Over the years, the ship has become a familiar sight on the company’s European itineraries. The vessel also operates under the name World Odyssey for Semester at Sea, where it serves as a floating campus for university students and lifelong learners during its winter seasons. Two voyages of more than 100 nights are scheduled for the 2026-27 academic year, while a third itinerary is planned to depart from the Netherlands in late 2027.
What remains uncertain is Deutschland’s deployment for the summer of 2027. Following the ship’s departure, Phoenix Reisen will continue operating a three-ship fleet consisting of Artania, Amera and Amadea.
The three vessels will continue to offer European cruises during the summer season before heading to destinations farther afield during the winter months.
