Disney Cruise Line has unveiled the first details and renderings of a new ship class that will be built at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany.
The new series will initially consist of three 105,000-ton ships, with deliveries scheduled for 2029 and 2030.
Revealed during the D23 Expo, the first rendering shows a design that shares similarities with Disney’s Wish-class ships while introducing several new features.
One of the most notable design elements is a three-deck-high glass area located amidships. The ships will also retain Disney Cruise Line’s signature exterior styling, including the traditional black-and-gold hull and two funnels. In a video shared by the company, Disney highlighted several key elements of the new class, including an optimized hull designed to improve efficiency. The ships will also incorporate what Disney described as a state-of-the-art lightweight design, which is expected to help reduce energy consumption and improve overall efficiency. According to Disney, the new class has been designed to capture the magic of the ocean while introducing a number of new experiences and features. More details are expected to be revealed at a later date. “From sketches and finished drawings, thinking ahead and creating new attractions for months and years to come, we keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things,” the company said. At approximately 105,000 tons, the new ships will be slightly smaller than Disney Cruise Line’s most recent newbuilds. Each vessel is expected to accommodate up to 3,000 passengers.
