Passengers aboard Royal Caribbean International’s Adventure of the Seas experienced an unexpected interruption, when the cruise ship suffered a temporary loss of power.
The incident happened on 5 September 2026, during the ship’s Southern Caribbean voyage, shortly before one of the scheduled main dining periods. It is not clear whether the outage affected the early or late dining seating.
According to passenger accounts shared via social media, the power failure affected the ship across multiple areas. Staterooms lost electricity, elevators stopped working, and dining service was temporarily interrupted. The ship's emergency lighting remained operational throughout, providing some illumination while passengers waited for the situation to be resolved.
The sudden outage understandably caused some confusion among passengers. Guests reportedly used the lights on their mobile phones while trying to work out what had happened. For people relaxing in their cabins or preparing to head to dinner, the unexpected darkness was an unsettling experience. Being on a cruise ship in the middle of the ocean can make even a short technical problem seem concerning when passengers do not immediately know what caused it. The ship's captain quickly addressed passengers with an announcement, offering reassurance while the crew worked to restore the electrical systems. A passenger later reported on Facebook that power had been restored and that normal operations were resuming. Another passenger on Reddit reportedly said the ship had regained full power after approximately 30 minutes.
At the time of the reports, there were no reports of injuries connected with the outage. There was also no indication that the ship's itinerary had been significantly affected.
Royal Caribbean had not provided an explanation for the cause of the power failure at the time of the original report.
