![]() Hebridean Princess berthed at Oban In August 2011, Dream Designs Colchester is set to visit yet another world famous cruise ship, when they board the beautiful Hebridean Princess. Dream Designs Colchester contacted the Hebridean Island Cruises, earlier this year to request permission to visit the Hebridean Princess, when she visits Harwich International Port for the first time, later this year in August. Hebridean Island Cruises have since agreed to welcome us aboard Hebridean Princess on Friday 19th August 2011. Hebridean Princess started her life as the car ferry Columba, owned by Caledonian MacBrayne, carrying up to 600 passengers, and 50 cars, between the Scottish islands, from her homeport of Oban. In 1968, additional seating was added on the after deck, boosting her passenger complement from 600 to 870. Columba continued operating after her sisters, Hebrides and Clansman where decommissioned. In 1988, she was acquired by the then new venture, Hebridean Island Cruises to offer luxury cruises. The vessel later underwent a major refit at George Prior Engineering in Great Yarmouth in 1989, emerging as the famous luxury cruise ship she now is. The vessel officially began operating on Friday 26 May 1989. Two years after her refit her car-carrying capacity was removed and new additional cabins were added to allow for a dramatic increase in the crew to guest ratio. By 1997, a crew of 37 was serving just 49 passengers in considerable style and luxury. Hebridean Princess offers her guests luxury cruises around the Western Isles of Scotland and more recently, itineraries have been extended to include Ireland, the Orkney and Shetland islands, and even the Norwegian Fjords. ![]() Hebridean Princess is chartered by Her Majesty The Queen In July 2006 Her Majesty The Queen charted Hebridean Princess for a 'family holiday' around the Scottish Islands to mark her 80th birthday. Her Majesty The Queen later charted the luxury vessel again in July 2010 to celebrate the 50th birthday of the Duke of York and the 60th birthday of the Princess Royal. Whilst on board Hebridean Princess, Dream Designs Colchester hope to have the opportunity to meet with the Captain, to present their drawing of the ship which was especially assigned in early this year in February 2011. Harry Cotterill, President & Managing Director, Dream Designs Colchester, said: " We are delighted that Hebridean Island Cruises have so kindly agreed to welcome us aboard Hebridean Princess, when she visits Harwich International Port during the summer. We are all very much looking forward to visiting such a stylish vessel and meeting the Captain and his crew.
