P&O Cruises has announced the name of its largest and most exciting cruise ship yet which is due to launch in 2020. The new ship will be named Iona. The announcement was officially made on 24 May 2018.
The announcement was as a result of a competition ran last year, when the cruise line invited members of the public to suggest a suitable name for the ship. Over 30,000 submissions were received and a panel of experts made the final decision.
Iona is a small island in Scotland and one of the most beautiful places in the United Kingdom. The island offers great vantage points of the sea much like the brand new ship will when it launches in spring 2020.
Paul Ludlow, Senior Vice President, P&O Cruises explains in this video why the name Iona was so fitting for the new next-generation cruise ship for the cruise line.
