Somewhat later than originally planned in summer 2021, despite the global pandemic, P&O Cruises' brand new state-of-the-art flagship, Iona, set sail from Southampton on its maiden voyage. On board was Matthew Gilbert, from Cruising with Matthew.

P&O Cruises has announced the name of its largest and most exciting cruise ship yet which is due to launch in 2020. The new ship will be named Iona. The announcement was officially made on 24 May 2018.
The announcement was as a result of a competition ran last year, when the cruise line invited members of the public to suggest a suitable name for the ship. Over 30,000 submissions were received and a panel of experts made the final decision.
Richard Twynam is the Managing Director of Azamara in the UK and Ireland and has held the position since January 2014. Richard took a moment to chat with us about the exciting new ship joining the fleet, Azamara Pursuit and its multi-million pound refurbishment taking place in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
Majestic Princess is the first cruise ship which Princess Cruises have specifically designed for the Chinese cruise market. The ship was constructed at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy and was delivered to Princess Cruises on 30 March 2017.
Majestic Princess is the third cruise ship in Princess Cruises’ Royal-Class of ships and is sister to Royal Princess and Regal Princess. The new ship features many of the same iconic features as her sister ships but also boasts some new unique features not found on her sister ships. The ship is the first new build in the Princess Cruises fleet to feature the cruise line’s new Seawitch livery design on the bow, with her hair flowing towards the stern. Viking Sky is the third in a series of six new build cruise ships for Viking Ocean Cruises. Viking Sea was the first in the series and launched in 2015, followed by the second, Viking Star in 2016.
Viking Sky is the latest new ship to join the fleet and was delivered to Viking Ocean Cruises in January 2017. The ship will depart on its maiden voyage in February 2017. The ship will be officially christened in Tromsø, Norway on 22 June 2017, under Norway’s ‘midnight sun’. |
