Viking Sky is the third in a series of six new build cruise ships for Viking Ocean Cruises. Viking Sea was the first in the series and launched in 2015, followed by the second, Viking Star in 2016. Viking Sky is the latest new ship to join the fleet and was delivered to Viking Ocean Cruises in January 2017. The ship will depart on its maiden voyage in February 2017. The ship will be officially christened in Tromsø, Norway on 22 June 2017, under Norway’s ‘midnight sun’. The 47,800 gross tonne mid-sized luxury cruise ship can accommodate 930 passengers. Each of the 465 stateroom and suites on board boasts private balconies.
Passengers can enjoy a wide range of amenities on board, including a range of restaurants and various bars and lounges. For those that like to relax there is a wonderful spa and salon as well as two swimming pools, once of which has a retractable roof and the other is an infinity pool which offers breath-taking views from the stern of the ship. For those that like to keep fit and active there is a fully equipped and spacious fitness centre as well as an outside sports deck at the top of the ship. Viking Sky also features an expansive theatre and comfortable seating as well as two 3D cinemas. At the centre of the ship is the three deck high atrium which is simply spectacular and features a large screen which showcases photography from destinations across the world. Various amenities and services are located in the atrium including guest services, shore excursions and the Viking Bar. Viking Ocean Cruises are all inclusive and include a range of shore excursions in each port of call, all meals on board, Wi-Fi, 24 hour room service, access to the Thermal Suite in the LivNordic Spa, beer and wine with lunch and dinner service and premium dining reservations. A further three new build cruise ships are to be delivered to Viking Ocean Cruises. Viking Sun is scheduled to launch in November 2017, followed by Viking Spirit in April 2018 and Viking Song in 2020.
