The largest ever cruise ship constructed for AIDA Cruises has been floated out of the construction hall at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany.
The 180,000 gross tonne AIDAnova is now positioned at the outfitting dock at the shipyard ahead of its delivery to the cruise line later this year.
AIDAnova will be christened at an open-air concert at the shipyard on 31 August 2018. The Mizra family have been chosen as the ship’s God family and were selected from hundreds of applicants. 25,000 spectators are expected to attend the christening show and live concert by DJ David Guetta.
The ship will accommodate up to 6,600 passengers in 2,500 cabins. It will feature a range of accommodation, including dedicated family cabins, single cabins and luxury suites. Passenger amenities on board will include 23 bars and a choice of 15 restaurants. AIDAnova will be delivered to the cruise line in Bremerhaven on 15 November 2018. The ship will be based in the Canary Islands during its inaugural season, operating seven-night cruises from Gran Canaria, which will visit Madeira, Tenerife, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote. Fuelled by Liquified Natural Gas, the new ship will be the cleanest cruise ship to ever sail. A sister ship is also scheduled to launch in 2021.
