Meyer Werft has laid the keel of AIDA Cruises’ second 183,900 gross tonne cruise ship, AIDAcosma.
The first building-block was lowered into the dry dock at the Neptun Werft shipyard in Rostock, Germany on 15 October 2019.

The first piece of steel was cut for AIDA’s next liquefied natural gas (LNG) powered cruise ship, at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany.
The new 6,600-passenger ship will be a sister to the world’s first LNG cruise ship, AIDAnova which was recently awarded the Blue Angel for its environmentally friendly design. The new ship, which is yet-to-be-named, is expected to launch in May 2021.
The latest addition to the AIDA Cruises fleet, AIDAnova set sail on its maiden voyage from Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain on 19 December 2018.
The ship was delivered to AIDA Cruises by the Meyer Werft shipyard on 12 December 2018 in Bremerhaven, Germany. AIDAnova was originally due to be delivery to the cruise line in November but due to continued delays some cruises had to be cancelled as a result.

AIDAnova is the world’s first Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) powered cruise ship. At 183,900 gross tonnes new ship is the largest ever built for the cruise line and the largest constructed by partner company, Carnival Corporation.

The vessel is now expected to set sail on its inaugural cruise on 19 December 2018. All scheduled cruise prior to this date have been cancelled.
The largest and newest cruise ship ever to be built at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany has successfully completed its conveyance of the Ems River from the shipyard to Eemshaven.
The 183,900 gross tonne AIDAnova departed the shipyard on the morning of 08 October 2018, navigating numerous locks, bridges and barriers before it arrived in Eemshave at approximately 09:00 on 09 October 2018.
The largest ever cruise ship constructed for AIDA Cruises has been floated out of the construction hall at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany.
The 180,000 gross tonne AIDAnova is now positioned at the outfitting dock at the shipyard ahead of its delivery to the cruise line later this year. AIDA Cruises has taken delivery of its latest new cruise ship, AIDAperla. The ship was delivered from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in Nagaski, Japan.
The 124,100 gross tonne ship is the second new cruise ship for AIDA Cruises which has been constructed in Japan and is a sister ship to AIDAprima which launched in 2016. Construction has started on what will be the largest cruise ship ever built for the German cruise operator, AIDA Cruises.
The steel cutting ceremony for the new 180,000 gross tonne Helio-class ship took place at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany on 21 February 2017. AIDA Cruises is to offer its guests up to 26 different speciality coffees and teas from a new Starbucks outlet on board its flagship, AIDAprima.
Starbuck already has outlets on board other cruise ships but this is the first time that the America coffee chain has opened an outlet on a German cruise ship. The drinks will be served from the Pier 3 Market on board AIDAprima on Deck 3. |
