The latest addition to the AIDA Cruises fleet has been delivered to the cruise line by Meyer Werft on 12 December 2018 in Bremerhaven.
AIDAnova is the world’s first Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) powered cruise ship. At 183,900 gross tonnes new ship is the largest ever built for the cruise line and the largest constructed by partner company, Carnival Corporation.
Present at the handover ceremony in Bremerhaven was Felix Eichhorn, President, AIDA Cruises, Bernard Meyer and Tim Meyer, Managing Director of Meyer Werft, Captain Boris Becker and other guests of honour.
The ship includes a wide variety of features including the first 360-degree stage in the population theatrium, with more than ten LED walls and a ‘magic tunnel’ for spectacular artist performances. Four Elements atop the ship towards the stern includes a climbing wall, waterslides and a beach club. AIDAnova also boasts a large 3,500-square-metre spa, outdoor gym and numerous swimming pools and whirlpools. The ship also offers guests 17 restaurants and 23 bars and lounges to choose from. Accommodation consists of 21 different categories, from standard inside cabins to a two-deck-high Penthouse suite. The ship also has a number of single cabins. The ship will depart on its first cruise on 19 December from Bremerhaven to Lisbon. Media and press will join the ship on a short cruise to the Canary Islands.
