The first piece of steel was cut for AIDA’s next liquefied natural gas (LNG) powered cruise ship, at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany.
The new 6,600-passenger ship will be a sister to the world’s first LNG cruise ship, AIDAnova which was recently awarded the Blue Angel for its environmentally friendly design. The new ship, which is yet-to-be-named, is expected to launch in May 2021.
Construction of the 189,300 gross tonne ship will take place at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany and the Neptun Werft shipyard in Warnemünde, Germany.
The keel laying will take place in October 2019 at the Neptun Werft shipyard, where the engine room section of the ship will be constructed. The maiden voyage is scheduled for spring 2021.
