Princess Cruises has announced that its next new cruise ship will be named Sky Princess and is to offer cruises around the Mediterranean from October 2019.
The brand new 143,700 gross tonne ship will be the fourth ship in the cruise line's successful Royal-class of ships, with sister ships Royal Princess, Regal Princess and Majestic Princess already in service. A fifth ship is expected to launch in November 2020.
Jan Swartz, Group President of Princess Cruises and Carnival Australia, said: “ Sky Princess continues a Princess Cruises legacy and honours one of our previous ships. When Princess merged with Sitmar Cruises in 1988, Sky Princess joined our fleet and sailed with us for 12 years. Now more than 30 years later, a new Sky Princess will join the fleet featuring our modern design platform and contemporary innovations offered to exceed our guests’ expectations.”
The 3,560-passenger Sky Princess will set sail on its inaugural cruise in the Mediterranean from Piraeus on 20 October 2019. The ship will offer seven-night cruises from Civitavecchia and Barcelona. In the Winter the new ship will reposition to Fort Lauderdale to offer Caribbean cruises.
