Celebrity Cruises is expected to announce further details about its new Edge-class cruise ships, following the announcement of a partnership with the designer, Nate Berkus. He is to become the Design Ambassador for the new class of ships. He will be co-hosting a series of reveal events, joined by Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, President & CEO, Celebrity Cruises and Richard D. Fain, Chairman & CEO, Royal Caribbean Cruises, which is the parent company that owns Celebrity Cruises. Designer Nate Berkus and Celebrity Cruises will host the events in March 2017 and designs of the new class of cruise ships will be revealed in 3D.
At the age of just 24, Nate Berkus established his award-winning interior design firm, showcasing an approachable and elevated design philosophy that has transformed countless interiors around the world for over 20 years. His signature style has been carried through to his various product lines which include a home and baby collection, a fabric line, as well as being Artistic Advisor for LG STUDIO. Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, President and CEO, Celebrity Cruises, said: “Nate Berkus embodies modern luxury, and evokes a global aesthetic with his forward-thinking style, which is admired by the design world and the world at large. When we first sat down with Nate, we knew this was going to be an incredible partnership. Design is in our DNA, as well as Nate’s, plus we share a love for the same things: modern luxury, one-of-a-kind design, and global travel. We couldn’t think of a better person to collaborate with on the truly transformational Edge Class.” Nate Berkus, Design Ambassador, said: “When Celebrity approached me about a potential partnership, I couldn’t wait to get on board – pun intended. Their commitment to delivering the very best in terms of luxury design, but also their attention to the overall experience, the level of detail and care, really stood out for me. “I love the idea that we can travel beautifully, and that every moment of the experience – from start to finish – is exceptional. That’s what the Edge Class is all about.” At present very little is known about the 117,000 gross tonne Edge-class cruise ships. Celebrity Cruises has ordered the construction of four of these cruise ships. The first two, Celebrity Edge and Celebrity Beyond and scheduled to launch in November 2018 and March 2020, followed by the further two ships in 2021 and 2022.
