The 2,850-passenger Celebrity Eclipse has become the first cruise ship to ever homeport in Dublin, Ireland. The ship arrived at the port on 29 April 2018 and departed on its inaugural cruise from the Irish port the following day.
The 122,000 gross tonne Celebrity Eclipse was launched in 2010 and was the third of five ships in the Solstice-class of luxury cruise ships from Celebrity Cruises.
Jo Rzymowska, Vice President and Managing Director, Celebrity Cruises, Ireland, UK and Asia, said: “Thank you to the city of Dublin for making Celebrity Eclipse feel so at home. We’re blown away by the welcome. This is the first time in three years that we’ve added a new European homeport to our itineraries and Dublin has exceeded our expectations. Testament to the strong demand from our guests to sail from Dublin, we are excited to return with another ship and another mini season in 2019.”
The ship is expected to bring an estimated €1 million to the city of Dublin each turnaround. Celebrity Eclipse will offer a total of five cruises from Dublin, including cruise itineraries to Iceland and the Norwegian Fjords. The ship was previously homeported in Southampton, United Kingdom. With the repositioning of Celebrity Eclipse to Dublin, the newer Celebrity Silhouette has replaced the ship, offering sailings from Southampton.
