Celebrity Cruises celebrated another milestone in the construction of its new ship, Celebrity Edge when it was floated out of the dry dock for the first time on 23rd January 2018.
Celebrity Edge is the first new class of ships for Celebrity Cruises in 10 years and is currently under construction at the STX France shipyard in Saint-Nazaire.
The new ship features many innovative features and several industry firsts, including infinite balconies and the moveable platform on the starboard side of the ship, Magic Carpet which is to be used as a variety of functions, including a restaurant, bar and tender station.
Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, President and CEO, Celebrity Cruises, said: “The float out process marks a milestone in the building of Celebrity Edge. With exterior construction complete, the amazing STX France team will now turn their attention to bringing all of the meticulously designed venues and transformational staterooms and suites to life."
Celebrity Edge will depart on its inaugural cruise from Fort Lauderdale on 21 November 2018, arriving earlier than originally expected. The ship will operate Eastern and Western Caribbean cruises, before it is repositioned to the Mediterranean.
