Costa Cruises have announced the name of its next newbuild cruise ship which is bound for China when it debuts in October 2020.
The new 135,500 gross tonne ship will be named Costa Firenze and will be a sister to Costa Venezia, which will also operate in the Chinese cruise market.
The 5,200-passenger ship will sail from Trieste to Savona on its maiden cruise departing on 01 October 2020The ship will offer five to seven-day cruises in Europe and a 51-day re-positioning cruise departing from Savona on 02 November 2020, before arriving in Hong Kong on 22 December 2019.
Neil Palomba, President, Costa Cruises, said: “Given the success of the inaugural cruises of Costa Venezia, we have decided to keep Costa Firenze in the Mediterranean for a whole month before its positioning in Asia. The Costa Firenze is part of an expansion plan for the Costa Group that includes a total of seven new ships being delivered by 2023, for a total investment of over 6 billion euros. The next ship to come into service, in October 2019, will be Costa Smeralda, a real tribute to Italy’s finest and our excellence”. Mario Zanetti, President, Costa Group Asia, said: “Costa Venezia and Costa Firenze are the proof of Costa Cruises’ long-term commitment to China market." noted. “Costa Cruises is also dedicated to bringing the Italian Aesthetic lifestyle to Chinese guests while delivering Italian culture and experience to them. Together with Costa Venezia, the arrival of Costa Firenze will help boost the development of Chinese cruise industry.” Costa Cruises has been operating in the Chinese cruise marketing since 2006. Costa Firenze, like its sister ship Costa Venezia will feature a number of innovations and amenities designed specifically for the Chinese market.
