The newest addition to the 135,500 gross tonne Costa Cruises fleet, the Costa Venezia, has arrived in Shanghai as the ship made its maiden call.
The maiden call of the vessel saw a group of VIPs take part in a ceremony on board the ship. Amongst the VIP guests was the Vice Mayor of Shanghai and executives from Carnival Corporation and the Costa Group.
Michael Thamm, CEO, Costa Group & Carnival Asia, said: “The Costa Venezia is Costa’s first brand new ship which is tailor-made for our Chinese guests. Her maiden voyage from Italy to Shanghai along with the maritime Silk Road route not only carries the beauty and charm of the city of Venice, but also the long history of friendly exchange between Italy and China, which could easily date back to the time of Marco Polo.”
Costa Venezia which launched in March 2019 was designed specifically for the Chinese cruise market. The ship will sail from Shanghai offering sailings to various Japanese ports of call.
A sister vessel, Costa Firenze is expected to launch in 2020 which will also sail the Chinese cruise market.
