A crew member has died and four others have been injured and are in a serious condition after a lifeboat fell from Royal Caribbean International’s Harmony of the Seas.
During a routine crew safety drill whilst the ship was docked in Marseille, one of the lifeboats fell into the water from Deck 5, with five crew members on board the lifeboat at the time.
One crew member has died from his injuries, whilst four others have been taken to hospital, two of which are in a serious condition. The reason for the lifeboat falling is unknown at present.
Royal Caribbean International have released a statement and said: “We are sorry to share the sad news that a crew member aboard Harmony of the Seas has died of injuries suffered during a lifeboat drill conducted while docked at the port of Marseille, France. Four other crew members received medical treatment in the same incident. We are keeping our colleagues and their families in our thoughts and prayers.”
