A crew member on board Emerald Princess has died following a gas explosion which took place whilst the ship was docked in Port Chalmers in New Zealand on 09 February 2017.
The ship remainder in Port Chalmers overnight until it was given clearance to depart from the local authorities who carried out an investigation into the death of the crew member.
The 3,114-passenger Emerald Princess is now on route back to Sydney and is scheduled to arrive on 13 February 2017. The 12-night cruise will no longer stop at Fiorland however.
It is believed that the incident happened whilst technical work was being carried out on the hydraulic launching system of one of the tenders on board Emerald Princess.
Princess Cruises has released a statement: "We are deeply saddened that a member of Emerald Princess crew was fatally injured in the incident."
