The keel laying for the new Mein Schiff 1 for TUI Cruise took place at the Meyer Turku shipyard on 13 February 2017.
The new Mein Schiff 1 is due to be delivered in 2018 followed by Mein Schiff 2 in 2019. The two 111,500 gross tonne ships will be 315 metres in length, 20 meters longer than the previous new build for TUI Cruise.
Construction of Mein Schiff 2 was started as the first sheet of steel for the new ship was cut at the shipyard by a plasma cutter.
Wybcke Meier, CEO from TUI Cruises, said: “When the new Mein Schiff 1 and Mein Schiff 2 go into service, we will be operating one of the most modern fleets in the world. Both ships are characterized by innovative and environmentally-friendly construction methods, as well as state-of-the-art technology standards.”
