Royal Caribbean International has released its latest episode in its ‘Making an Icon’ video series, featuring the construction of its newest and largest cruise ship yet, Icon of the Seas.

In episode 4, the cruise line gave a more in depth look at the exciting new neighbourhood, the AquaDome.

The AquaDome is a brand-new neighbourhood, exclusive to Icon of the Seas and her sister ships which will follow. It builds about the AquaTheatre concept from the Oasis Class of ships, taking the experience to a whole new level.

The AquaDome is located on top of the ship, forward, above the bridge. The venue is housed under the largest glass dome ever to be installed on a cruise ship. Weighing in at 363-tons the dome has over 600 individual glass panels. The construction of the dome was so complex, it was built in tandem with the ship on the dock and carefully lifted into place before the ship was floated out.

The new neighbourhood will include restaurants, bars, lounges, and Royal Caribbean International’s revamped, next-level AquaTheatre experience.

During the day, guests can relax in one of the AquaDome’s comfortable seating areas and enjoy expansive, 220-degree views of the ocean. The AquaDome also features several dining venues including Hooked Seafood.

The most impressive feature will be the tallest waterfall at sea, towering some 55 feet tall, along with flying artist and professional divers! The performance will also include a transforming pool, four robotic arms, state-of-the-art projection, and more.

Icon of the Seas, which will be the world’s largest cruise ship when it launches, is set to debut in January 2024, sailing from her homeport of Miami. The first cruise on Icon of the Seas, is a seven-night Eastern Caribbean cruise. The ship will then sail alternating Eastern Caribbean and Western Caribbean itineraries.
