Recording artist, songwriter and rapper Craig David performed a set from his renowned DJ show TS5, whilst other performance included a Take That tribute band. State-of-the-art technology was used to create the show, which featured a dazzling light display across the deck.

Two outstanding employees were chosen to be Godmother on Marella Explorer. Sue Stewart, Hotel Operations Manager and Mandy Galloway, Retail Advicer at Edinburgh TUI store were welcomed to the stage by Captain Peter Harris.

10 members of the ship’s crew, from different departments across the ship slotted a ball of light into a vestibule which released the bottle of champagne smashing against the hull of the new ship.

At 265.5 meters long and 32.2 meters wide Marella Explorer is the biggest ship to be welcomed into the Marella Cruises fleet. The 1,924 capacity ship (double occupancy) boasts 962 cabins, nearly 40 per cent with balconies, and spans 13 decks.

Following the naming ceremony the ship departed on an overnight cruise to Barcelona as fireworks lit up the sky. The ship will return to Palma de Majorca to set sail on its maiden voyage on 19 May 2018.
