The latest addition to the MSC Cruises fleet and the cruise line’s new flagship, MSC Bellissima, was officially named in Southampton on 02 March 2019.
MSC Cruises invited guests from across the world, including VIPs, press and media, bloggers and influencers as well as travel agent partners to the star-studded event in Southampton.
The naming ceremony took place on the quayside in a large marquee which had been erected for the event. However due to an approaching low pressure system, named Storm Freya, the marquee had to be evacuated part way through the naming ceremony due to the increasing strong winds.
The ceremony then continued on board, where the ship’s Godmother, Sofia Loren performed the official naming in the Galleria Bellissima, joined by thousands. The event was also shown on all screens on board the ship. Before the decision was made to continue the ceremony on board, guests enjoyed a stunning performance from world-famous tenor Andrea Bocelli and his son Matteo Bocelli as well as a preview of the new Cirque du Soleil at Sea show which will feature on MSC Bellissima. The ceremony was also hosted by English TV presenter and star of ITV, Holly Willoughby. MSC Bellissima was the largest cruise ship ever to be christened in Southampton. The ship offers guests an extensive array of features which rival those of her sister MSC Meraviglia. The new MSC for Me technology connects guests with each other, the crew and the ship itself. Furthermore, guests will experience the world’s first digital cruise assistant, Zoe, a voice-enabled Artificial Intelligence device fitted in every cabin. The most impressive feature of the ship is the two-deck inside promenade, which features truly a spectacular 80-metre-long LED dome.
