Holland America Line has announced that Oprah Winfrey will be the Godmother for the cruise line’s forthcoming new cruise ship, Nieuw Statendam.
The announcement comes in conjunctions with plans for a three-day ‘Girls’ Getaway’ cruise on board the new ship in January 2019, hosted by Oprah and Gayle King the editor of O, The Oprah Magazine.
The three-day cruise will depart Fort Lauderdale on 30 January 2019 and will visit the private island of Half Moon Cay. The cruise will focus on celebrating the power of friends with experiences that will honour and pay tribute to the special bond between women.
Passengers on the ‘Girls’ Getaway’ cruise will be able to attend one of three live events with Oprah in addition to a host of other special events, including style sessions and meditations held on and off the ship. Orlando Ashford, President, Holland America Line, said: "We are so excited to have Oprah set sail with us again for the Girls' Getaway cruise in partnership with O, The Oprah Magazine, and we're deeply honored that Oprah will serve as godmother of Nieuw Statendam. We anticipate the energy and inspirational spirit will be unlike any other cruise experience there is -- and life-changing for many." Nieuw Statendam is due to launch later this year, with her first sailing departing Civitavecchia on 05 December 2018. No date has yet been announced for the naming ceremony. The ship is currently under construction at Fincantieri's Marghera shipyard in Italy.
