Passenger Jumps Overboard From Independence of the Seas

A passenger on board Royal Caribbean International’s Independence of the Seas has reportedly jumped overboard. The incident occurred this morning whilst the ship was cruising off the coast of Florida and led to a search by the U.S. Coast Guard.
 
It has been reported that the passenger is a 22 year old male, who jumped from deck 12 whilst the ship was approximately 33 miles southeast of Key Largo in Florida at 01:45.

​Royal Caribbean International issued a statement following the incident:

​“We are saddened to report a guest on board Independence of the Seas was witnessed intentionally going overboard from deck 12 at 1:45 a.m. The ship immediately alerted local authorities and turned around to help search for our guest. Two of the ship’s lifeboats and the U.S. Coast Guard conducted a search.”
