The first ever new build cruise ship for Saga, the 58,250 gross tonne Spirit of Discovery has been delivered to the cruise line from Meyer Werft shipyard.
The delivery ceremony and hand over of the ship took place in Emden, Germany on 24 June 2019. The ship will soon sail for Dover, United Kingdom, where it will arrive on 28 June 2019.
Spirit of Discovery can accommodate a maximum of 999 guests and 523 crew members. The ship measures 236 metres in length and is 31.2 metres wide.
The new ship provides a British contemporary classic ambiance, specifically designed to provide a personalised, luxurious cruise experience. The design of Spirit of Discovery showcases British style and excellence to the highest level, with all the architectural and interior design created by UK-based agency SMC.
The naming ceremony will take place in Dover on 05 July 2019, where HRH The Duchess of Cornwall will name the ship at an exclusive invite-only royal garden themed VIP event. The inaugural ‘A British First’ cruise will depart on 10 July.
Spirit of Discovery will be followed by a sister ship, Spirit of Adventure, which the Meyer Werft shipyard will deliver to the cruise line in 2020.
