The first new build cruise ship for Saga Cruises, Spirit of Discovery, is set to float out from the building hall at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany on 12 May 2019.
The 999-passenger vessel will be moved from the building hall where it has been constructed at the shipyard to a nearby quay, where the ship’s mast and funnel will be carefully lifted into place.
Spirit of Discovery will then be berthed at an outfitting-quay where further work will take place on board the vessel ahead of its sea trials. The ship’s crew will also embark the new ship.
Following the sea trails in the North Sea the ship will be handed over to Saga Cruises. Spirit of Discovery will be christened in Dover on 05 July 2019. The ship will set sail on its maiden voyage on 10 July 2019, cruising around the British Isles.
The new ship is the first of two new build cruise ships for Saga Cruises. The second, Spirit of Adventure is expected to launch in August 2020.
