On 28 February 2018 the steel cutting ceremony of Saga’s first ever new build cruise ship took place at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany.
The steel cutting ceremony marks the start of the building process for the new 999-passenger cruise ship Spirit of Discovery.
Senior executives from Saga were present at the ceremony, with Lance Batchelor, CEO, Saga Group and Tim Meyer, Managing Director, Meyer Werft pressing the start button on the computer-operated cutting machine.
The 58,250 gross tonne Spirit of Discovery is expected to launch in July 2019. The maiden voyage will depart Dover on 10 July 2019, cruising around the British Isles for 13-nights.
A sister ship, Spirit of Adventure will launch in 2020.
