The steel cutting for Crystal Cruises two new additional Rhine-Class river yachts took place at the MV Werften shipyard in Wismar on 09 January 2017. The two new 110-passenger river yachts are scheduled to enter service in Spring 2018.
Present at the steel cutting ceremony was the Genting Group Executive Chairman Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's Economics Minister Harry Glawe and numerous other guests.

AIDA Cruises has announced that its newest cruise ship, the AIDAperla will be launching two months earlier than planned and will arrive in the Western Mediterranean in July 2017.
The 124,700 gross tonne ship will arrive in Palma de Mallorca on 01 July 2017 and offer seven-night cruises, visiting Barcelona, Civitavecchia, Corsica and Livorno. Uniworld Boutique River Cruise Collection is to launch a new river cruise brand to appeal to younger travellers. To be known as U by Uniworld, the brand will aim to attract 18-40 year old cruisers and will offer more adventurous experiences and modern décor and lively on board atmosphere.

We are targeting an active traveller between the ages of 18 and 40, with everything from the décor, dining and cocktail service to the land activities thoughtfully curated to appeal to, and meet the needs of, this audience.” Norwegian Cruise Line has announced its 2018-2019 cruise itineraries, which will see the cruise lines largest ship, Norwegian Escape set sail from New York City on regular seven-night cruises to Bermuda, Canada and New England, Bahamas and Florida.
The Norwegian Breakaway, which has been homeported from New York with it’s Big Apple inspired hull art, will leave New York in April 2018 to homeport Copenhagen sailing nine-night cruises to Scandinavia and Russia after a brief dry dock. The ship will return to New York in winter 2018 and will resume seven-night cruises to the Bahamas and Florida. Norwegian Cruise Line’s newest ship which is still under construction, the Norwegian Bliss is being custom-built to operate seven-night Alaskan cruises from Seattle and will arrive in June 2018. Princess Cruises has announced its largest ever UK cruise season operation for 2018, with three of its ships offering cruises from Southampton and Dover.
Five years after it was officially named by the Duchess of Cambridge, the 141,000 gross tonne Royal Princess will return to Southampton and will offer Britain Isles cruise itinerates. The world’s largest cruise ship, Harmony of the Seas has set sail on its maiden transatlantic voyage, following its inaugural season in Europe.
Harmony of the Seas debuted in Southampton in May 2016 with a 3 and 4-night cruise followed by the official 7-night maiden voyage from Southampton to Barcelona. The ship has since been cruising the Mediterranean from Barcelona. Norwegian Cruise Line will be spending around £30 million revamping the 94,000 gross tonne Norwegian Jade ready for her Southampton debut in spring 2017.
Launched in 2006 the ship originally sailed as Pride of Hawaii until she was renamed Norwegian Jade in 2008. The refurbishment will see many of the Hawaiian-themed interiors replaced and guests will be able to enjoy exciting new on board amenities. MSC Cruises has announced that its new 167,600 gross tonne MSC Meraviglia will be cruising in Northern Europe in summer 2018.
The ship will enter service in May 2017 and will debut in the Mediterranean. Designed as the ‘ship for all seasons’ it’s not a massive surprise that the ship will not be in the Mediterranean forever. From 29 April 2018 the ship will offer sailings from Hamburg. Hapag-Lloyd Cruises has announced that it will build two brand new five-star expedition cruise ships, which will launch in April and October 2019. The new ships will weigh 16,100 gross tonnes, measure 138 meters in length and will each accommodate 240 guests.
The two ships will be constructed at the Vard shipyard in Norway. Both vessels will be equipped with state-of-the-art technological features and environmental technologies, including the highest Polar Class designation for passenger ships. PC6. This rating means both ships have the capability to cruise the Arctic and Antarctica as well as also cruising warm water destinations such as the Amazon. P&O Cruises’ mid-sized cruise ship, Oceana is to home port from the cruise port of Valletta in Malta during 2017 and 2018.
Edward Zammit Lewis, who is the Minister for Tourism in Malta said that the home porting of P&O Cruises’ Oceana in Malta “is exciting for the tourism sector” and that he looks forward to further developing a relationship with P&O Cruises. Over 100,000 passengers are expected to be handled through the fly and cruise program on Oceana during 2017. |
