The luxury cruise ship Silver Whisper, operated by Silversea Cruises, recently emerged from dry-dock having undergone an extensive refurbishment, ready for her 117-night 2017 World Cruise.
The ultra-luxury suites were refurbished and the bathrooms were decorated with dark emperor marble flooring. The pool area was completely retiled and new chaise loungers have improved the levels of comfort and style in the outdoor spaces on board. In addition to this, two new whirlpools were added to the ship and new synthetic turf was added to the jogging track and outdoor spa decks.

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines’ 804-guest Black Watch will be entering dry dock at the Blohm + Voss shipyard in Hamburg, Germany in November 2016, in preparation for the forthcoming 2017/18 cruise season.
The ship will undergo various engineering work, general maintenance and refurbishment during the dry dock, as well as the creation of several new public areas and guest facilities, as part of a multi-million pound investment. Work is expected to commence at Blohm + Voss on 20th November 2016. Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines’ 28,613 gross tonne Black Watch is to enter dry dock next month to undergo planned refurbishment work. The refurbishment will see interiors spaces updated as well as two new restaurants added to the ship.
Regular maintenance work will take place during the dry dock. In addition to this work, cabins will receive improvements including new fabrics and refurbished bathrooms. Princess Cruises’ 141,000 gross tonne Royal Princess has become the first ship in the fleet to set sail with the cruise lines striking new ‘seawitch’ design on the bow of the ship.
Royal Princess underwent a refurbishment in dry dock in Palermo. Amongst the work carried out on board was the addition of a midship passenger stairwell. Norwegian Cruise Line will be spending around £30 million revamping the 94,000 gross tonne Norwegian Jade ready for her Southampton debut in spring 2017.
Launched in 2006 the ship originally sailed as Pride of Hawaii until she was renamed Norwegian Jade in 2008. The refurbishment will see many of the Hawaiian-themed interiors replaced and guests will be able to enjoy exciting new on board amenities. MSC Cruises has announced that 4,360-passenger MSC Splendida will offer cruises from China in 2018, joining the smaller 1,984-passenger MSC Lirica.
MSC Splendida will undergo a dry-dock refurbishment in winter 2017, adapting the ship to meet the needs of the Chinese cruise market. The ship will offer cruises to destinations in China, Japan and Korea. Itineraries are yet to be announced. P&O Cruises’ 1995-built Oriana, which is the oldest ship in the fleet, is to undergo an extensive refurbishment.
The mid-sized ship will head to Hamburg at the end of November 2016 where the refurbishment will take place, which will see improvements to cabins and suites, restaurants, bars and lounges and other passenger amenities on board. P&O Cruises are working with leading cruise industry architects, Richmond who designed the interiors of their flagship Britannia, which launched in 2015. The most distinctive features will remain on board Oriana, but new modern carpets, lighting and furniture will be added. Silversea Cruises has announced plans for their biggest refurbishment project to date. The fleet-wide project will see the luxury cruise line spend $170 million.
