IMPORTANT NOTICE: On August 26th 2013, we had the opportunity to visit Celebrity Cruises’ Celebrity Infinity at Harwich International Port. At Dream Designs Colchester we have for some time had a very close connection and friendship with Celebrity Cruises. As a result we were able to gain permission to visit the Celebrity Infinity some weeks prior to the visit via direct correspondence with the Captain and his crew. Harry Cotterill, President & Managing Director, Dream Designs Colchester was joined aboard Celebrity Infinity by Gavin Pamment Chief Photographer, Dream Designs Colchester as well as Gavin’s parents. They arrived at Harwich International Port at approximately 9:45 and were due to board Celebrity Infinity at 10:00. Before entering the Cruise Terminal to collect their passes from the Passes Office, Gavin took the opportunity to take a number of photographs of Celebrity Infinity from outside the Cruise Terminal. After collecting their passes they made their way along the designated pathway on the quayside next to the ship along to the crew gangway and made their way through port security. They were then met by a Security Officer at the bottom of the crew gangway who exchanged their port passes for the shipboard passes, before being allowed to board Celebrity Infinity. Upon boarding Celebrity Infinity on Deck 4 (Promenade Deck) they were welcomed aboard by more members of the security team on board and were now required to pass through the ship’s own security checks. Once through the on board security checks, Harry, Gavin and Gavin’s parents were invited to tour Celebrity Infinity at their leisure until 12:00, which was when the meeting with the Captain had been scheduled. Beginning their self-guided tour of the vessel, Harry took Gavin and his parents up to Deck 11 (Sunrise Deck) where they started their tour in the Constellation Lounge, before making their way down to Deck 10 (Resort Deck) where they viewed the many venues on this deck including the AuqaSpa, the Fitness Center, the Solarium, the Ocean View Café & Grill and more. After exploring Deck 10 (Resort Deck), Harry together with Gavin and his parent made their way back up to Deck 11 (Sunrise Deck) to take a look at the new deck which has been added to the stern of the vessel, housing the new balcony staterooms. Making their way back outside onto the external decks they took the opportunity to have a number of photographs taken with Celebrity Infinity’s vast funnel towering behind them. Whilst on deck they took a quick look at the sports court on Deck 12 (Sports Deck) before making their way to the mid-ships stairwell and elevator lobby. Here they had the opportunity to take a look at one of the new features aboard, Qsine Having now explored the upper decks of Celebrity Infinity it was time to take a look at the lower public decks. On the way down to Deck 5 (Entertainment Deck) Harry took Gavin and his parents into the Celebrity I Lounge and the Library, both of which are situated adjacent to the mid-ship stairwell. Having made their way down to Deck 5 (Entertainment Deck) they arrived at top of the spectacular Grand Foyer. Continuing the self-guided tour Harry, Gavin and Gavin’s parents ventured aft and explored Bistro on Five, Cellar Masters and the impressive two deck high main dining room at the stern, The Trellis Restaurant. Continuing their tour on Deck 5 (Entertainment Deck) they headed towards the bow, passing through the Art Gallery and passed various shops and Speciality Boutiques before arriving at the three deck high Celebrity Theater. Making their way down to Deck 4 (Promenade Deck) via the stairwell in the Celebrity Theater, they took a brief look at the Promenade Deck and lifeboats, before continuing their tour of the various venues inside. Here on Deck 4 (Promenade Deck) they saw the Photo Gallery, Michael's Club, Fortunes Casino, Martini Bar / Crush, with its cool ice topped bar and the Rendezvous Lounge. Lastly on they made their way to Deck 3 (Plaza Deck) where they explored the Conference Center and the SS United States Restaurant, before making their way into the Grand Foyer. Having explored all of the passenger venues aboard Celebrity Infinity and still having a little while before meeting with the Captain at 12:00, Harry suggested to Gavin and his parents to take the elevator up to Deck 10 (Resort Deck) to the Oceanview Café & Grill for a quick drink and rest. Now approaching 12:00 they made their way back down to Deck 4 (Promenade Deck) to the gangway where they had boarded to ask a member of the ships security team to radio the bridge / Captain. Harry, Gavin and Gavin’s parents were kindly asked to wait whilst a crew member from the bridge came to escort them. Before long they were met by a crew member who escorted them to Deck 8 (Panorama Deck) where they were taken to the Captain’s Office. Here Harry had the opportunity to speak with the Captain and show him his portfolio before being taken to the bridge. On the bridge Harry had the opportunity to officially present his especially assigned drawing of Celebrity Infinity to Captain Anastasios. Following the official drawing presentation, Harry, Gavin and Gavin’s parents had the opportunity to explore the bridge as well as ask any questions they had about the navigational equipment or ship.
Whilst on the bridge Staff Captain, Matthew approached Harry and introduced himself who remember Harry when they had previously met in 2009 during aboard Celebrity Constellation at Harwich International Port. After spending quite some time on the bridge Captain Anastasios invited Harry, Gavin and his parents to enjoy lunch in the Ocean View Café & Grill before disembarking. They were of course happy to accept the Captain’s invitation and enjoyed a delicious buffet lunch. Having enjoyed lunch, as well as their time aboard Celebrity Infinity it was time to disembark the ship, via the crew gangway situation on the Promenade Deck on Deck 4 (Promenade Deck). For more information please Contact Us on the following details below Harry Cotterill, President & Managing Director, Dream Designs Colchester Mobile: 07778940245 E-mail: [email protected] On October 25th 2013, Dream Designs Colchester had the great privileged of visiting Saga Ruby in Southampton whilst the vessel was berthed alongside City Cruise Terminal. Harry Cotterill, President & Managing Director, Dream Designs Colchester was joined aboard by Anthony Marshall and Christian Reay who like himself are both studying the BA (Hons) Cruise Industry Management degree at Southampton Solent University. Harry was able to request permission to visit Saga Ruby and organise the visit aboard to officially present his brand new especially assigned drawing through direct correspondence with the Captain. On the morning of October 25th 2013, Harry, Anthony and Christian arrived at City Cruise Terminal at approximately 08:45 and made their way to the Passes Office to present their ID and collect their passes before boarding the ship. Due to poor weather conditions Saga Ruby’s arrival into Southampton had been delayed. Originally scheduled to berth at 05:00 she did not come alongside City Cruise Terminal until after 08:00. Thankfully this did not delay their boarding and before long security allowed visitors to proceed. Upon making their way into the security area Harry, Anthony and Christian were greeted by Ross Furlong, Hotel Operations Director, Saga who introduced himself to them and escorted them through security and along the passenger boarding gangway to board Saga Ruby. Upon boarding Saga Ruby, Ross Furlong handed Harry, Anthony and Christian over to Nicola Clarke, the Social Hostess, who welcome them aboard and lead them to the Britannia Lounge, where the official drawing presentation was planned to take place. Entering the Britannia Lounge it was very busy, full of passengers waiting to disembark due to the late arrival of the ship. However unexpectedly a number of seats had been reserved, right in the center of the lounge! Whilst they waited for the Master of Saga Ruby, Captain Wesley Dunlop to arrive, they were treated to a wonderful selection of cakes and pastries along with a choice of hot and cold drinks. After some time Ross Furlong entered the Britannia Lounge together with Captain Wesley Dunlop as well as James Duguid, Commercial Director, Saga and joined Harry, Anthony and Christian. They chatted for quite some time before Captain Wesley Dunlop invited Harry to officially present his drawing. Harry took to the stage, followed by Captain Wesley Dunlop and Ross Furlong and proudly unveiled his brand new drawing of Saga Ruby, with plenty of passengers in the lounge waiting to disembark also observing. Harry was informed that the drawing would be framed and a suitable location to display it wound be found! Following the drawing presentation Harry, Anthony and Christian were invited on a guided tour of the ship lead by Social Hostess, Nicola. Their first port of call was the bridge, where they had plenty of time to view the navigational equipment and each had a photograph taken at the wheel, wearing the Captain’s hat! Having spent quite some time on the bridge they continued their guided tour, looking at some of the different stateroom categories on board, all of which were very spacious and pleasant. Next they saw the main Dining Room and Lido, before making their way out on to the external decks at the stern, with their traditional teak decking and swimming pool. Other venues on board Saga Ruby which they got to explore included the Gym and Golf Putting Green, the Preview Bar, the Theatre and the Spa Aquarius. Having seen most of the venues on board Saga Ruby, Social Hostess, Nicola took Harry, Anthony and Christian back to the reception desk, where they left some of their belongings and informed them that they were welcome to explore the ship by themselves before enjoying lunch in the main Dining Room at 12:30. Now most of the passenger had disembarked Saga Ruby, Harry, Anthony and Christian took this chance to explore the venues which they had not been able to photograph or view during their guided tour, such as the Britannia Lounge and the Library. They also took the opportunity to take a leisurely stroll around the traditional promenade deck! Making their way back to reception, Ross Furlong recommended they enjoy a drink in the Britannia Lounge before having lunch on board. A short while later Ross Furlong escorted Harry, Anthony and Christian to the Dining Room. Ross Furlong joined them for a lovely three course lunch, together along with the Cruise Director and other members of staff to Saga’s head office. Having enjoyed their lunch, Harry, Anthony and Christian spent some time talking to Ross Furlong, Hotel Operations Director, Saga and were also joined by James Duguid, Commercial Director, Saga for a while, before they were welcomed to explore the ship more prior to disembarking. Harry, Anthony and Christian were sure to visit the Ballroom, which they had not yet photographed and sat down observing the service and relishing the ambience as the new passengers began to embark. Next they took a stroll out on to the aft decks and took the chance to enjoy a few games of shuffleboard together in the blustery weather on the upper decks behind the funnel. Lastly they took one last stroll around the traditional promenade deck, before making their way back to reception to the gangway and disembarked Saga Ruby, having spent over six hours on board! They all decided to head to Town Quay, where they watched Saga Ruby depart City Cruise Terminal, Southampton, assisted by two tug boats due to the strong winds which had strengthened as the day progressed.
