Our detailed drawing of Norwegian Pearl
Dream Designs Colchester are pleased to update you on the progress of our Norwegian Pearl drawing.

The drawing was originally due to be presented to
the Captain of the vessel, on our behalf by our Volunteer @ Sea, John. However you may remember the drawing arrived late, so the presentation was unable to take place during John’s 7 night cruise aboard the ship earlier this month.

However during his cruise he spoke with Matthhias Holz, Hotel Director, Norwegian Pearl , who later contacted us.

Matthias Holz, Hotel Director, Norwegian Pearl , said:

" I have just learned about you and your amazing story! We are all very impressed about your drawing you have made from our beautiful Norwegian Pearl and are very excited, as we have been informed by a passenger named Mr. Shulman that you are planning to send this drawing as a gift/present to us onboard. "

Matthias Holz, Hotel Director, Norwegian Pearl ,added:

" Unfortunately, I am leaving for vacation but ensure you that we will stay in contact with you and Mr. Shulman to make all necessary arrangements and to find the perfect spot onboard to display your artwork! We also have been on your website and feel honored to be selected by you making drawings from our ships. "
We're very pleased inform you that since our Volunteer @ Sea, John has returned home, our drawing has arrived. We are now currenlty awaiting to hear from the staff aboard Norwegian Pearl to make the final arrangements for our drawing to be presented during one of the vessel's turnaround visits in Seattle. We shall of course keep you update on the latest developments.

P&O Cruises welcomes Adonia

22/5/2011

On Saturday 21st May 2011 was another momentous day for the maritime world, as P&O Cruises officially named their newest ship, Adonia.

The 30,000 tonne vessel was originally built in 2001 by Chantiers de l’Atlantique, St. Nazaire, France for Renaissance Cruises as R Eight. Since then the vessel been operated by Swan Hellenic as Minerva II, before being transferred to Princess Cruises in 2007 as Royal Princess.

Adonia was official named by Dame Shirley Bassey DBE at a spectacular naming ceremony in Southampton.

Dame Shirley Bassey DBE said:

" I have had the most exciting career imaginable, but to be invited to be godmother to a cruise ship is something very special and very personal. "
Dream Designs Colchester has had a close relationship with P&O Cruises for a number of years and have been lucky enough to visit a number of their ships.

In April 2008 Nigel Esdale, then Managing Director, P&O Cruises invited us to visit the newly built Ventura, just days before she was officially named by Dame Helen Mirren DBE.

In April 2010 Dream Designs Colchester were invited to the Naming Ceremony of P&O Cruises' newest superliner Azura. We were also lucky enough to have the opportunity to meet Carol Marlow, Managing Director, P&O Cruises, where we were able to present our drawing of Azura.

Earlier this year Dream Designs Colchester contacted P&O Cruises, to ask if it would be possible for our drawing of Adonia, to be presented to the ship's Godmother, Dame Shirley Bassey DBE, during the Naming Ceremony. We received a letter from Carol Marlow, Managing Director, P&O Cruises, in response to our request to present our drawing of Adonia.

Carol Marlow, President & Managing Director, P&O Cruises,
said:

" We are delighted to have Dame Shirley Bassey as our new Godmother for Adonia and as you say it will be a mometous occasion. However, unfortunately, since the ship is only in port for a few days, it will be a very tight schedule and it won't on this occasion be possible for us to include a drawing presentation. I know you will understand this. "

In December 2010 our Volunteers @ Sea Ernie & Edna agreed to present our drawing of Aurora
to Captain David Pembridge during their Christmas Caribeean cruise.

Later this year in August, our Volunteers @ Sea, Ernie & Edna are due to present our drawing of P&O Cruises' Arcadia to the Captain of the vessel during their upcoming cruise.
Harry Cotterill, President & Managing Director, Dream Designs Colchester, said:

" It was wonderful to see the arrival of Adonia to the P&O Cruises’ fleet. From first impressions she looks to be a remarkable vessel and I’m sure she’ll be a favourite among P&O Cruises’ passengers. Although we were unable to be part of the Naming Ceremony celebrations, we shall endeavour to present our drawing to the Captain of the vessel in the near future. "

On Monday 16th May 2011, Dream Designs Colchester visited Harwich International Port to witness the inaugural arrival of Costa
Pacifica
.

The 114,500 tonne vessel is by far the largest cruise ship ever to visit Harwich International Port, with a maximum capacity to accommodate some 3,800 guests. Another Costa Cruises vessel, Costa Magica at 101,000 tonnes previously held the record for the largest cruise ship to visit the Essex port.

Dream Designs Colchester has had a close association with Costa Cruises in recent years and has had the joy of visiting a number of their vessels as well as many of our drawing being presented to their vessels’ Captains.

In May 2009 Harwich International Port kindly agreed to present our drawings of both Costa
Magica
and Costa Atlantica to the ships’ Captains, whilst the vessels where berthed alongside.

Later in June 2009, George Hammond PLC & Captain Massimo Garbarino arranged for us to visit the newly launched Costa Luminosa during the vessel’s inaugural call to Harwich International Port. Dream Designs Colchester were invited to meet Captain Massimo Garbarino personally, where we had the opportunity to present him with our drawing of the ship. In return we were presented with a book celebrating the 60 years of Costa Cruises.

" It was very exciting to see the arrival of the record breaking Costa Pacifica at Harwich International Port and I was so pleased that we had the opportunity for another of our drawings to be presented to the Captain on our behalf again. Whilst on the dockside we witnessed the Captain and his officers viewing our drawing on the bridge wing, which was a very special moment! "

Detailed artwork on our drawing of Norwegian Pearl
One of our most recently assigned cruise ship drawings, of Norwegian Cruise Line's Norwegian Pearl, has found itself delayed, after it was recently sent to our Volunteer @ Sea, John, in the United States.

John had very kindly offered to present our drawing of Norwegian Pearl to the Captain or Hotel Director, during his cruise aboard the vessel departing San Pedro, yesterday, May 1st 2011.

Harry Cotterill, President & Managing Director, Dream Designs Colchester, said:

" It was of course disappointing to hear that our cruise ship drawing of Norwegian Pearl did not arrive in time for our newest Volunteer @ Sea , John to be able to take it with him aboard the vessel during his 7 night cruise. He has however informed me that he will endeavour to speak with the Captain or Hotel Director during his cruise, to see if it is possible to arrange a drawing presentation at a later date. "
