Prince William and Cathrine Middleton exchange rings at the service
Today, Friday 29th April 2011, Dream Designs Colchester joined the many thousands of people worldwide, in celebrating The Royal Wedding of HRH Prince William, now The Duke of Cambridge, and his newly titled bride, The Duchess of Cambridge.

The service was held at Westminster Abbey in London, with two choirs, one orchestra and two fanfare teams who provided the music for The Royal Wedding service.

Both The Duke of Cambridge and The Duchess of Cambridge took great interest and care in choosing the music for their service, which included a number of well-known hymns and choral works as well as some especially commissioned pieces too.

Following the Wedding Service at Westminster Abbey, Claire Jones, the Official Harpist to The Duke of Cambridge, was said to have performed at a Reception hosted by Her Majesty the Queen at Buckingham Palace.

The Royal Wedding Procession took in some of London’s most prestigious sights and offered a truly memorable event in the most picturesque surroundings London has to offer, for the many thousand who turned out to witness the event.

Since Dream Designs Colchester was established in 2007, we have had quite a close association and interest with The Royal Family. We’ve had the opportunity to visit Cunard Line’s flagship Queen Mary 2 and their newest vessel Queen Elizabeth, both of which were officially named by Her Majesty The Queen.

We were lucky enough to visit Queen Elizabeth, just two weeks after Her Majesty The Queen officially named the vessel, upon the arrival back to Southampton after the maiden voyage. We also had the opportunity to present our drawing to Captain Christopher Wells, which is now displayed aboard.

Later this year in August 2011, Dream Designs Colchester will have the honour of visiting the majestic cruise ship, Hebridean Princess. The luxury vessel has been chartered by Her Majesty The Queen a number of times in recent years. During the visit to Hebridean Princess at Harwich International Port, we intend to present our drawing of the vessel to the Captain.

Harry Cotterill, President & Managing Director, Dream Designs Colchester, said:

" We are so delighted that we will have the opportunity to visit the Hebridean Princess in August when she visits Harwich International Port for the first time. It’s particularly appropriate that the vessel has been chartered by Her Majesty The Queen in previous years and adds to today's Royal Wedding celebrations."
In June 2012, Dream Designs Colchester will celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty The Queen, in Southampton aboard Cunard Line’s flagship Queen Mary 2. Both Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria, will join the celebration in Southampton, with a terrific Royal Rendezvous.

Harry Cotterill, President & Managing Director, Dream Designs Colchester, added:

" Today has been a truly remarkable day with thousand of people celebrating The Royal Wedding, not just here in the United Kingdom, but worldwide. It was a extraordinary to watch The Royal Wedding live via the BBC throughout this morning. We are very much looking forward to celebrating the Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty The Queen, next year, aboard Cunard’s flagship Queen Mary 2. "

Retired Commodore Bernard Warner on the navigation bridge of Queen Mary 2
Last week, Cunard Line said farewell to Commodore Bernard Warner, as he retired from his role as Commodore of the Cunard fleet.

It was a very emtional time for Commodore Bernand Warner, after spending a number of years as the Master of Queen Mary 2.

A special presentation was held on the bridge of the Queen Mary 2. Commodore Bernard Warner was presented with a number of gifts, from many of his fellow friends, including Peter Shanks, President, Cunard Line and David Dingle, CEO, Carnival UK.

In November 2010, Harry Cotterill, President & Managing Director, Dream Designs Colchester and his father, Brian Cotterill, had the honour of meeting Commodore Bernard Warner onboard Queen Mary 2, during their 2 night voyage aboard the vessel.

Commodore Bernard Warner kindly invited them both to the bridge, to present Harry's drawing of Queen Mary 2, before the ship departed the berth at Cherbourg.

Hebridean Princess Visit

24/4/2011

Picture
Hebridean Princess berthed at Oban
In August 2011, Dream Designs Colchester is set to visit yet another world famous cruise ship, when they board the beautiful Hebridean Princess.

Dream Designs Colchester contacted the Hebridean Island Cruises, earlier this year to request permission to visit the Hebridean Princess, when she visits Harwich International Port for the first time, later this year in August. Hebridean Island Cruises have since agreed to welcome us aboard Hebridean Princess on Friday 19th August 2011.

Hebridean Princess started her life as the car ferry Columba, owned by Caledonian MacBrayne, carrying up to 600 passengers, and 50 cars, between the Scottish islands, from her homeport of Oban. In 1968, additional seating was added on the after deck, boosting her passenger complement from 600 to 870.
Picture

Columba continued operating after her sisters, Hebrides and Clansman where decommissioned. In 1988, she was acquired by the then new venture, Hebridean Island Cruises to offer luxury cruises.

The vessel later underwent a major refit at George Prior Engineering in Great Yarmouth in 1989, emerging as the famous luxury cruise ship she now is. The vessel officially began operating on Friday 26 May 1989.
Picture

Two years after her refit her car-carrying capacity was removed and new additional cabins were added to allow for a dramatic increase in the crew to guest ratio. By 1997, a crew of 37 was serving just 49 passengers in considerable style and luxury.

Hebridean Princess offers her guests luxury cruises around the Western Isles of Scotland and more recently, itineraries have been extended to include Ireland, the Orkney and Shetland islands, and even the Norwegian Fjords.
Picture
Hebridean Princess is chartered by Her Majesty The Queen
In July 2006 Her Majesty The Queen charted Hebridean Princess for a 'family holiday' around the Scottish Islands to mark her 80th birthday. Her Majesty The Queen later charted the luxury vessel again in July 2010 to celebrate the 50th birthday of the Duke of York and the 60th birthday of the Princess Royal.

Whilst on board Hebridean Princess, Dream Designs Colchester hope to have the opportunity to meet with the Captain, to present their drawing of the ship which was especially assigned in early this year in February 2011.

Harry Cotterill, President & Managing Director, Dream Designs Colchester, said:

" We are delighted that Hebridean Island Cruises have so kindly agreed to welcome us aboard Hebridean Princess, when she visits Harwich International Port during the summer. We are all very much looking forward to visiting such a stylish vessel and meeting the Captain and his crew. "

Volunteer @ Sea, Stephen, on the bridge of Queen Victoria in November 2009
A special thank you to our Volunteer @ Sea , Stephen, for sending us the wonderful photos of our drawing of Queen Victoria, which he took during his recent cruise aboard the vessel.

Stephen presented our drawing of Queen Victoria, to Captain Paul Wright in November 2009, on a previous cruise aboard the vessel.

Whilst aboard the vessel in November 2009, Stephen was invited to the bridge, to meet Captain Paul Wright.

Our drawing of Queen Victoria was later framed and displayed aboard in the children's reception area, for the younger guests and parents to enjoy. You can view Stephen's wonderful photos below!

Harry Cotterill, President & Managing Director, Dream Designs Colchester, said:

" It was such a pleasant surprise to receive the wonderful photos from our Volunteer @ Sea, Stephen. It’s great to know our drawing of Queen Victoria is still displayed aboard the vessel, she must have clocked over 100,000 miles since she boarded in November 2009. "
Earlier this week we also receive another marvellous photo, from Debbie Richards, who is due to present our drawing of Carnival Dream to the Captain, during her upcoming Caribbean cruise.

Thank you Debbie, for the fantastic photo! We hope you have a phenomenal time aboard Carnival Dream.

Last month, Dream Designs Colchester contacted P&O Cruises, to ask if it would be possible for our drawing of their newest ship, Adonia, to be presented to the ship's Godmother, Dame Shirley Bassey, during the Naming Ceremony in May 2011.

Earlier this week we received a letter from Carol Marlow, Managing Director, P&O Cruises, in response to our request to present our drawing of Adonia.
Carol Marlow, President & Managing Director, P&O Cruises, said:

" We are delighted to have Dame Shirley Bassey as our new Godmother for Adonia and as you say it will be a mometous occasion. However, unfortunately, since the ship is only in port for a few days, it will be a very tight schedule and it won't on this occasion be possible for us to include a drawing presentation. I know you will understand this. "

She Added:

" I do hope you enjoy the ship visits you have planned this year and relish the different experiences. "

Harry Cotterill, President & Managing Director, Dream Designs Colchester, said:

" We were very pleased to receive a response from P&O Cruises earlier this week. Although our request to present our drawing of Adonia to Dame Shirley Bassey is not possible, we will endeavour to find a suitable home for the drawing in the future and hopefully have the opportunity to visit the vessel in the coming years. "
In April 2010, Dream Designs Colchester were invited to the Naming Ceremony of P&O Cruises' Azura, where we had the opportunity to meet with Carol Marlow, Managing Director, P&O Cruises, and officially present our drawing of Azura.

Norwegian Cruise Line's Norwegian Pearl
Very soon yet another of our most recently assigned cruise ship drawings, Norwegian Pearl, is to make it’s way aboard the ship, where it shall hopefully be presented to the Captain of the vessel.

John Shulman who is a staff member of the popular online cruise forum, CruiseLineFans, has been following our progress for a number of years and has kindly agreed to present our drawing of Norwegian Pearl to the Captain, whilst he is aboard the vessel during her 7 night cruise in May 2011.

John Shulman, said:

" I have been following Harry’s work for some time now and I am very pleased to have the opportunity to deliver his drawing of the Norwegian Pearl to the ship when we sail on her in May 2011. "
In June 2010, our drawing of Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Epic was taken aboard on our behalf by Patricia Dempsey, where it was was assumed to have been passed on to the Captain, although we sadly never received any reply from the Captain or Norwegian Cruise Line.
Picture
We shall be sending our drawing of Norwegian Pearl to John later today, hopefully it should arrive with plenty of time to spare before his departure from San Pedro, California, on May 1st 2011.
Harry Cotterill, President & Managing Director, Dream Designs Colchester, said:

" It’s truly wonderful that another of our most recently assigned cruise ship drawing is to hopefully be presented to the Captain, so quickly after it was completed. We were delighted when John approached us and offered to take the drawing aboard on our behalf. "
